Aging reclusive millionaire, John McAfee, has been on the lam since last weekend and denies anything to do with the killing of his neighbor, claims that he believes he would face a “summary execution” in the event that he gives himself up to the Belize police.
During a remote telephone interview conducted from an apparently secret location, McAfee stated that he did not recognize nor agree with Belize prime minister Dean Barrow’s description of him as “bonkers.”
McAfee further added, “I would describe myself as quite sane and lucid, which is why I’m still alive. The world chooses to think what the world thinks.”
Throughout the phone interview, McAfee continued to remain calm and coherent, denying any involvement in the shooting of Gregory Viant Faull, 52, who lived a mere 300 yards from him on Ambergris Caye, an island off Belize, last Saturday night.
McAfee relayed that he was at his villa that night, adding: “I was at home. I heard nothing. I knew nothing until the following day.”
McAfee said he was following developments in the hunt for him intermittently, now accompanied in hiding by a female companion. He has been described by police as a “person of interest” but is not currently listed as a suspect.
“I wish I had a TV, that would be very informative. I’m keeping tabs through friends. I have intermittent access to the internet, again through friends,” said McAfee.
Concluding the call, McAfee stated,
“They nationalized the phone company and so they can trace calls and triangulate. I cannot talk on this phone for long. “My plan is a day-to-day plan, simply to avoid detection.”
