Starbucks Settlement Silences Sex Scandal

With only a few weeks left until a lawsuit was set to go to trial, coffee giant Starbucks has settled out of court.  The lawsuit was centered around a young female employee who said she was continually sexually harassed during her employment at Starbucks.

The Defendant Kati Moore, who is now 20, says her then 24-year-old supervisor Tim Horton would often solicit her for sex in hundreds of inappropriate text messages.  This was taking place when she was just 16 years-old.

Moore also claimed other Starbucks supervisors and managers knew what was happening but did nothing to stop the illicit relationship. It was only until Moore’s mother found out about the situation that prosecutors were alerted.

Horton has since claimed he did not know Moore was 16 at the time. He pleaded guilty to a felony charge of illegal sex with a minor and served four months in prison.  None of the parties involved would speak of the terms involved in the case or how much Moore was awarded.

Starbucks has claimed to have a strict policy against sexual harassment and managers dating baristas, but there is nothing specific in regards to relationships with teens under the age of 18.
